One of the best and only custard and ice-cream shop around, it is so sad to see it about to close down.If you feel for some coconut custard, hurry and get it quick before Ritters is gone. × DAMN YOU STARBUCKS ×

Cue up that Boyz 2 Men track for it's a shame this place is closing. It's kind of like partying with a pretty girl all night then finding out she's getting married the next day and won't open a page in a now-famous dating website. Maybe the pouring rain was an omen...as I drive up to Nancy's closing UYE at Ritter's. Part of a small national chain, Ritter's decor was like stepping back in time with the metal chairs and old style flooring. Service was pleasant for a quick sweet treat (Strawberry Delight) and come to find out it was a dog friendly establishment. Yeah, my Yap Yap liked the plain flavored cup with a dog bone treat. Thanks for the ever brief memory Ritter's! youtu.be/zDKO6XYXioc

This was my first time at Ritter's after passing by many times over the years and boy am I glad I did! I tried their vanilla (frozen custard), since I have never had frozen custard. My forst impression, it was super rich and a creamier version of "soft ice cream". Next time I'll get toppings like hot fudge, marshmallow and cookie dough, which was recommended by others. My friend had a cappuccino smoothie (shake), that was super rich and delicious too. Note: they also serve hot coffee, cappuccino and espresso (they have an industrial espresso machine, like you'd find in a high-end Italian restaurant/coffee shop, pretty impressive. Good choice for rich, creamy "ice cream or shakes" on a hot summer day/night, especially with a group! Enjoy!

This was my first UYE and despite the pouring rain 11 of my yelp friends came to say farewell to Ritters. No one had the same thing, and sergio even took home a doggie dish for Luna..she is a spoiled girl!! Beth F, Steve C, Jeanne M,, Sergio F, Katie M,. Edwin P, Gary M, Amelia and I all ate the last we are ever going to get from ritters. I had the banana and pistachio scoops in a cup! The place was pretty full inside and they even had face painting for the kids. Its a shame Ritters wont be here any more because of big corporation take over(Starbucks will be taking over the location).i dont really think we need ANOTHER starbucks anywhere especially where an establishment thats been an icon for the past 20 years is. It will be missed. They close their doors for good in 3 days on monday. At least we all got a good taste before we wont be able to ever again! I hate big business ..dont know why they couldnt just leave well enough alone. Bring on the change I wont be going to starbucks when they take over ritters...you can have it! Thanks for the past 20 years of creamy custard. Glad i could share it with my friends one last time

My friend and I stopped here after our morning kayaking adventure. I had the cookie dough custard, which was tasty (though nothing out of the ordinary). My friend had a strawberry drink that was part custard, part Italian ice. Now THAT was unique! The prices were very reasonable, and were able to try out a few flavors before making our selection. There's even a drive-thru, but we decided to dine inside (as it wasn't busy). I'd go here again to try out some new flavors.

I take back everything I said in 2011. I come here too often and thoroughly enjoy this place's frozen custard and turtle sundaes.

This evening, (a Tuesday evening with only a handful of cars in the parking lot at Ritter's) I pulled up to the drive thru, there was a car ahead of me that was ordering. Once they completed their order they pulled around, I pulled up to the menu and was promptly told by the employee that he would be with me "in a moment". I sat there for 11 minutes before pulling around to the window (which the previous patron was no longer at and nowhere in sight). I attempted to flag down any of the several employees I saw inside but was not able to get their attention as they were all deep in conversation. At that point I just drove away. Moral of this review: Don't assume they remember you're still there waiting if your moment becomes closer and closer to an eternity.

Great after dinner stop! This was my second trip and I like my ice-cream simple. Vanilla with hot caramel and hot marshmallow. I am not sure if the is a chain restaurant; I have not seen any others in South Florida. The ice cream, well custard I guess is smooth and creamy, reminds me of something you would make at home. The only reason I did not rate it five stars was because of the service; having to listen to the young girl who helped us complain about working the walk up window and counter customers was a definite turn off. That being said the custard was so good I will defiantly be back.

If you have read any of my reviews you might have figured out that I am an ice cream fan. I've had Ritters bookmarked for quite some time so when we happened to be in the area for an event, I was happy to tick this one off the list. Ritters has a walk-up window out front, lots of stone tables to sit at outside, a few (maybe 6-8) tables inside, and a drive-thru. They do ice cream, smoothies and coffee. You can buy ice cream in pints or quarts to take out. I tried the Grizzly Cub sundae, which is vanilla custard layered with hot fudge and Spanish peanuts. I love love loved it. Totally punched all my buttons. Service was a fast and friendly and they were pretty hopping at 10pm on a Saturday night.

I've been living in the Tamarac/Coral Springs area for over 10 years and I can't believe this is my first time here. I haven't had custard since my teenage years of working at a custard shop, but after having my first bite it brought back memories. A rich creamy sweet taste of a cross between yogurt/ice cream is kinda how to describe it but better. I ordered a small vanilla cone for my daughter & small cup for myself. I kept it plain because I wanted judge the original taste of the vanilla. Woo hoo it was better than what I remembered & Ritter's passed with flying colors! I played it safe this time by sticking to plain ol vanilla for sure, but next time my visit will be for something a little more daring... Sunny

Update: Just an "outstanding" place to get ~ fresh ~ frozen custard. Today, I liked it really simple, a sugar cone with a scope Rum Raisin. (so good) Great service, a very clean establishment and a bargain for the quality of product that they serve. Remember, tonight is Monday and your canine gets a free treat (bow-wow). Cheers!

Good ice cream/custard. The staff are all like high schoolers though. I never see an adult manager on, not to mention here and there they've mixed peanuts into my order. I mean I'm not allergic but that's just sloppy and if someone is that's just dangerous. Even after calling to bring that to their attention they don't really seem to care either.

Ritters is the best as far as ice cream!!!!!!!!!!!! Went today for the last time to the Margate location. : ( Will never forget this place. And for those hating Starbucks - be mad at the owner - the people working today told me and my sister the owner chose to sell since he didn't want the business any more...............Can't blame another company or buying the place................Starbucks is good but not that good to run a business that is doing well out of some where,

I love frozen custard and this place does it so well. I get the vanilla custard and mix in cookie dough or strawberries, but there really are no bad combinations. My friend always gets a red velvet milkshake. It's amazing. This place is a Sunday routine for me now. You must try it.

I have always enjoyed the flavors and the fact that you can sit in or sit outside and people watch. They are also pet friendly and our four leg friends have their day as well at Ritters. I will agree that the portions are on the small side considering the price, that said I have always had a good refreshing custard. Custard sounds nasty but really it's pretty good. And no bloating due to lactose intolerance, maybe just me. Nice place to stop on a warm summer night, in Florida that's just about every night. ENJOY!

This should be a 4 1/2 star. Their custards and ice cream are delicious. I got hooked on their fresh banana flavor.

Their frozen custard is amazing! Every flavor I've tried has been so good. Portions are big so I always go with the smallest size. Love bringing my dogs on Monday for their free custard treat. Nice seating area outside for us to sit with everyone.

I really don't know the difference between ice cream and custard, but I like this! Interesting flavor selection- I usually go with banana, triple ginger or vanilla. I keep it simple- just a cone, but they make some very complicated sundaes. Dog night on Monday- bring your dog, and he gets a scoop!

I "accidentally" ended up here two nights in a row this past weekend so I thought I should probably come back and give it five stars. I discovered the kids menu with the worms and dirt sundae and I was in love. It is chocolate custard with crushed oreos and gummy worms. I'm not sure how but these are the best gummy worms in the world. You can switch out the chocolate for whatever flavor you'd like on the menu...one night I got the red velvet. This little treat is the perfect size and price and since its on the kids menu I feel less guilty.

Yay! I love Ritters. Their ice cream is some of the best around. It is very rich and creamy due to the fact that they add egg while keeping the air content low. I will normally just get a scoop of vanilla and chocolate and be fine. Every now and then the will have a flavor -- like turtle or banana or caramel cashew -- that will cause me to stray. I love what they make.

This is a difficult review to write. I don't have frozen custard often (diabetic) but revel in those rare indulgences. The frozen custard is truly wonderful. However, the no sugar added flavor is always vanilla and for two days they add strawberry. How about chocolate, too!?! I would love to have a dish of some of the other flavors. But just adding chocolate would be great! Wouldn't you think that being in Florida it would just be good business to offer more no sugar added flavors? That said, I would give a 4 for quality and a 2 for selection. Average it to a 3.

Driving down Atlantic and my boyfriend says "I want some ice cream" and boom, we see Ritter's on the right--it was like some kind of dessert fate! I've never been to Ritter's so the only thing I can compare it to is Rita's and while Ritter's was good, Rita's is still my favorite. They offer custard, Italian Ice and other fun concoctions. My beef? The menu size was really small......like font size small which I find odd seeing that so many retirees live in the area. The girl working the counter wasn't much help either, she was a bit snooty and seemed frustrated with us asking questions. But damnnit, it was good custard!

  • Alex L.

Not as good as Rita's in Maryland but it probably had to do with more of the experience than the food. We had some grumpy blonde girl that kept rolling her eyes at us while we studied the menu. We even let other people go ahead of us while we were deciding. Don't know what her problem was but the custard was great so hooray!

I have been here a few times and just went in July, it's been a while. I forgot how great this place is. They have every combo you could want plus ice cream, custard, ice water, etc. A bonus, each Monday are the "dog days" of Ritters, bring puppers out for a fun dog and family night out. They serve doggie custards:)

  • Jeanne M.

On a hot day (which would be most of them), this is a nice place to stop for a treat. On the positive side, the quality of the custard is as good as any we've found. The staff is friendly and the special night for dogs is a favorite outing of our furbabies. While not really negative, but more of a low neutral, they could use more variety in flavors. The first time we went, they said they would have two flavors of no sugar added custards (my husband is diabetic), with rotating interesting flavors. That has not been our experience. It's always vanilla, sometimes we're lucky and he can have strawberry. The prices also seem a bit high. One thing that is really nice, is the pet night. Your dog gets her own doggie cup of custard. Our girls love this treat. I've never been anywhere else with a dog's night!

Just back from here and I had a blueberry/banana Glacier it was quite good it could have been a bit more frozen. I find it a bit on the expensive side almost 7 bucks with the tax for a regular size but it's not something you have everyday.

I don't eat dessert often. When I do it has to be something really good. I had a hot fudge sundae and my husband had the mint chocolate chip in a cone. Both were really delicious (yes, I tried his!). This place reminds me of one those old-timey, seasonal custard stands "down the shore" in Jersey. Yum.

So being an NYC chickie and having mr. Softie ice cream trucks at almost every corner I decided to finally try ritters. My bf ordered a brownie sundae and I just ordered a simple vanilla cup. Not sure why it was almost $11... It was very small portions and yes the flavor was good. But for that price, I was expecting a colossal brownie sundae and a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream. Needless to say I wasn't impressed. However, they do host doggie night on Mondays where they will serve you pup as many cups of a kid size servings of vanilla ice cream with a treat in it. I have a pitbull so finding pit friendly places is always a hassle. So I was happy to know know that my pittie was safe and welcomed at ritters.

This is a neighborhood gem. My family comes here several times a month. I always like to get the ice-cake glacier with strawberries mixed it. It's fantastic! I highly recommend it :)

I was running an errand in a different part of Broward county when I passed by this place. I'd never seen or heard of it before. They have a nice selection of custard flavors, and a wide variety of treats. They also have coffee when you don't want that sugar rush. They have a couple of nice comfy leather chairs to eat in, too. All in all, it's one of those off the wall places that has charm and decent treats.

Up in this part of the world recently, so we stopped of at Ritter's. Frozen custard...HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG!! And they have tantalizing flavors and so may ways of customizing that get your mouth watering as your wating to place the order...YUM ! Nothing fancy, no frills. Just order up what you finally decide on, grab a spoon, and dig in ! You can sit inside, or outside in a ''sonic'' type setting... I would just recommend going a size down from what you WANTED to order, because eyes are usually bigger than stomach ! : ) Try this place out some time !!

I have to disagree with my fellow reviewer. Frozen custard is neither ice cream nor a replacement therefor. I used to appreciate Ritter's just because I liked the idea of a flavor hotline, which you could call to find out the flavors du jour. That was where the appeal ended. I went recently and was disappointed by the daily flavors, the price, and the crowd. All in all, it was a bad experience. The sundae that I got was alright -- nothing special, but it wasn't bad, so 3 stars seems fitting.

Frozen custard is similar to ice cream, but smoother and creamier since it also has eggs in it... and this place has amazing custard. They have a good variety of flavors that are freshly-made (I highly recommend the cookies and cream), and it's so good that you'll want to buy a pint of it (which you can do, and your waistline will not be happy with you for doing). They also have specials for several nights of the week - Mondays are "dog days" where you can bring your dogs and they'll get a small cup of vanilla custard with a dog bone in it for free. We haven't brought our dogs yet, but that's just because we're afraid they'll get spoiled ;) My only complaint is that I wish I they were located closer to me... but that is probably a good thing, for the afore-mentioned waistline reason!

  • Tati N.

I was suprised by how warm it was inside, which doesn't bode well for a frozen custard shop. Thus, when I received my sundae, it was very goopy, runny, and on the verge of becoming ice cream soup. The heat also brought out this odd, spoiling smell in the place, which is the main reason why I haven't come back. The flavors are the standard fare, nothing special. It's very old-fashioned, which is fine I guess. I just didn't like the heat inside, the goopy ice cream and the spoiled smell it had.

Great ice cream at a good price. The staff was very friendly

  • Rashna S.

This is the only place I've had custard ice cream, and I thought it was really good. I'm giving them 4 stars because the they only have a limited of flavors, and my top 2 choices were finished so I ended up getting just plain vanilla. If this place could have more flavors, I would have def given it 5 stars. I'd go back :-)
